My dream of traveling in an expedition pedal boat

is finally over.

It is just crazy what it would cost to have a boat like this built commercially.

The only company that built a suitable Z-pedal-drive has taken it out of their program because they could no longer guarantee a cost - covering production.

This removes the most important building block for a do-it-yourself project.

The bittersweet part is that I had finally found the right boat to convert to a foot pedal boat, but without the right Z-drive it is not possible! Sure, one could tinker something together, but such a thing would not hold in the long run on a expedition river & lake boat...

Now I have to look for an affordable boat like my old ORCA, only this time with a 15 hp diesel engine to keep the environmental impact and fuel costs within limits. But to find a boat like this here in Germany will be very hard.

Most boats are way out of my budget...

What a crazy world we live in.

It's much cheaper to buy a diesel powered motor boat than an expedition foot pedal boat ...

It's no fun at all to plan anything anymore here in Germany!

Many projects fail just because of small things and the narrow-mindedness of many people here!

So different from

Alaska & Canada

where help is never far away...

It is not at all common for people to share the details of their boat building with others.

They keep their boats a secret for fear of competition...
